Creating Command-Central

Posted by Isabelle de Grandpre on Tuesday, March 19, 2013, In : Newsletters
The older my children get the more I seem to need to keep tabs of. I actually thought (stupid me) that when they got older, it would be easier to manage their lives. I was very mistaken so recently I decided to tame the paper clutter on my fridge and try to create a kind of 'command-central' for my family.

What is a command-central? Many refer to this idea as a launch pad - a common space to store small, important items you use everyday. These items can include your keys, cellphones, ...

AWOL List

Dear budding neat freaks,

Compliments of the new year to you and I hope you have all had an incredible festive season surrounded by family and friends. I was very lucky to be in Mauritius with my large family, sipping G&T's in the calm ocean. It was awesome to be together (although sometimes I hankered for my own bed and pillow)!

Since I didn't have a lot of time before I left to get stationery done, I have had to deal with it now and I couldn't believe it when I realised that I (yes, ...

Beauty & the Beast...

Dear budding neat freaks,

Everyone who knows the story of the name of my business, knows that I chose it primarily because my daughter kept calling me this. But what everyone doesn't really know is that she is the COMPLETE opposite. In fact, she took great delight in buying a sign that declares Bless this Mess (for all to see passing her bedroom door).

For most, the lack of organisation by our kids is frustrating but for me, as the Neat Freak, you can imagine that I border ...

So, Neat Freak is proud to launch the NEAT PUZZLES system that will save you loads of space and money from incomplete puzzles (not to mention eliminate the tantrums when your child can't finish their masterpiece).

NEAT PUZZLES - the perfect system to organ...

Put to the test

Posted by Isabelle on Monday, November 23, 2009, In : Thinking about it
Last week-end, the kids' rooms were shambolic and I actually just ignored it (rather good going for a Neat Freak) until I hit upon a plan.

What if I put those rooms to the '5-min system test', which basically was that I would set the timer for 5 minutes and we would see if we could get them sorted in that time using the systems that exist in that space.

So, came Sunday afternoon, that is what I did with my daughter by my side and pretty soon, order was restored in the allotted five mins!  (Here...

Easter Bunny is out the bag...

Posted by Isabelle on Wednesday, April 15, 2009, In : I am only human!
You know that sinking feeling you get when you suddenly realise that the sun has risen and the birds are tweeting louder than normal and you're meant to be up? WELL, I had that feeling x2 this week-end when I realised that the Easter bunny hadn't deposited his eggs because he hadn't set the alarm and therefore overslept!

Needless to say, I instructed the kids to 'be gone' which they clearly understood as 'go away so I can hide your chocolates' and they very soon called me on it!

I guess the Eas...

Despite the effort

Posted by Isabelle on Monday, February 23, 2009, In : I am only human!
I had one of those nights last night - you know the one, where your child is ill and although you feel for them, you also wish they would hurry up and get better so you can go to sleep?

My son suffers from allergies to dust and I really try to keep his environment clean and dust-free but it is impossible to maintain. I wash his linen religiously, have his room wiped down once a week and have containers for all his toys so that dust doesn't collect on them.  Despite this he still has nights lik...

Hurrying about

Posted by Isabelle on Monday, February 9, 2009, In : I am only human!
My philosophy with my kids is that they should organise their things for school themselves. It is important that they become more responsible. But last night I find myself hurrying about doing all sorts of things in their rooms and my husband comes into the room and asks me what I was doing? Had I forgotten the lessons that I try to teach everyone about?
I could only reply that I AM ONLY HUMAN and some days, the philosophy slips a little!
