May 2013 Newsletter
Gone
are the days when we lived in homes with opulent reception rooms and
kitchens large enough to cater for a small army. Nowadays it is all
about open-plan entertainment areas or cramped modern living. So what do
we do if we still want to have a functioning kitchen but don’t have the
space to do it? Here's how we can make space magically appear!
Maximise
your wall space by going to the ceiling with shelving. High shelving
isn’t going to be useful for everyday it... Continue reading ...
Organised Office - Organised Mind!

April Newsletter -2013
When I was with a client recently she confided to me that her office is so disorganised that she feels like her mind is about to explode! Since I quite like my client (we'll call her Sam), I suggested to her that we avoid such an explosion and rather set about installing systems and solutions for her that would create a more productive space. When she remained circumspect, I reminded her that a loss of income will be the result of working in an environment that isn't fun... Continue reading ...
Creating Command-Central

The older my children get the more I seem to need to keep tabs of. I
actually thought (stupid me) that when they got older, it would be
easier to manage their lives. I was very mistaken so recently I decided
to tame the paper clutter on my fridge and try to create a kind of 'command-central' for my family.
What is a command-central? Many refer to this idea as a launch
pad - a common space to store small, important items you use everyday.
These items can include your keys, cellphones, ... Continue reading ...

Keep your eye on the ball

The last couple of years have been hectic. So much personal drama and so many things I've wanted to do. But despite my best intentions, in the last 4 years, by mid-Feb I am in a panic. This year I vowed it would be different by going back to my tried and tested way of planning ahead and keeping my eye on the ball.
And it hasn't been easy because who likes planning and budgeting? The pull for me is to be creative. Develop new ideas. Find new products. But since I want the business to grow and m... Continue reading ...

Dear budding neat freaks,
It’s January and you’ve decided to make some changes. This year, make it all about simplifying your life and your spaces.
Simplify your clutter by examining if all the ‘stuff’ you have is adding value to your life or causing you stress. It’s wonderful to buy new things and keep old souvenirs but if it limits your capacity to be happy, be brave and get rid of it. You can give to charities or sell the items if that helps.
Simplify memories. We all have those 't... Continue reading ...

Recycle & reorganise
Dear budding neat freaks,
I have been recycling ever since I got married. We lived in a flat and even then I loved trying to find a way to make the most of my space. I found toy containers that stacked and used them behind our kitchen door. It was a small kitchen but I made it work.
Over the years it became easier and now I have a recycling station in my courtyard that consists of three 95L rubbish bins for plastic, cans and glass and a separate box for cardboard and paper. ... Continue reading ...

Money doesn't grow on trees...
Dear budding neat freaks,
When I decided to make changes to my offices in May (i.e. close the home shop and create an admin area and take over my awesome home laundry to make way for a stock room), I knew I certainly didn't have the money-tree recipe. I had to find a way to do it without spending lots of money.
I set about challenging myself to recycle everything I could for new shelving and literally only wanted to pay towards the labour. So, my husband helped me ... Continue reading ...

Keepsakes for Pete's sake
Dear budding neat freaks,
If you read last month's newsletter, you will know that I was in the middle of an ensuite bathroom renovation. You will also know just how much I loved (read "hated") this process. Obviously a neat freak doesn't enjoy the chaos that renovation brings BUT what I am thoroughly enjoying, is the licence to tidy up this chaos has afforded me!
My rule of thumb for a good clean up (and clean out) is that it is done twice a year. My first for the year ... Continue reading ...

Put to the test
Last week-end, the kids' rooms were shambolic and I actually just ignored it (rather good going for a Neat Freak) until I hit upon a plan. What if I put those rooms to the '5-min system test', which basically was that I would set the timer for 5 minutes and we would see if we could get them sorted in that time using the systems that exist in that space. So, came Sunday afternoon, that is what I did with my daughter by my side and pretty soon, order was restored in the allotted five mins! (Here... Continue reading ...
Hurrying about
My philosophy with my kids is that they should organise their things for school themselves. It is important that they become more responsible. But last night I find myself hurrying about doing all sorts of things in their rooms and my husband comes into the room and asks me what I was doing? Had I forgotten the lessons that I try to teach everyone about? I could only reply that I AM ONLY HUMAN and some days, the philosophy slips a little! Continue reading ...
