As most parents are well aware, school has changed! From the age of 10 onwards learners need to manage the classroom expectations of multiple educators, as well as an enormous array of subjects, materials and tasks.
This has led to an increase in learners who are slipping through the cracks and failing to reach their potential.

But these learners are struggling with problems that have little or nothing to do with intelligence,
academic ability or a motivation to do well. They’ve simply been unable to get beyond an enormous barrier to learning
because of a lack of organisational skills and tools at their disposal.

These skills are referred to as executive function capabilities and include things like planning, prioritising, organisation, time management and working memory. They originate from the pre-frontal cortex in the brain – this area of the brain is not fully developed until late adolescence. Simply put, through not fault of their own, learners CANNOT cope
with what is expected of them.

The School Sorted Planner, created by SmartSkills, was born out of an overwhelming need to find an answer to the problems learners face each day. Developed by a mother who needed to find an effective solution for her own children,
the School Sorted Planner is a tool that a child can use to get organised in their learning environment.
They feel more in control of their time and tasks and more confident as they know what do do and when to do it by.

The layout is in an A4 format and works on a VISUAL BASIS so the child is able to see their week, including their extra mural obligations. Sections of the planner include a space to create a step-by-step outline for projects and learning and includes information/tips and a section on time management.
